Artist statement 2026

My work navigates the fragile tension between nihilism and absurdism, exploring the moments where meaning collapses yet human experience persists. Through oil, water, acrylic, and digital media, I translate the invisible currents of thought and feeling existential emptiness, fleeting hope, quiet despair, and the strange humor that emerges in the face of absurdity into visual form.

I am drawn to representational imagery as a way to anchor the intangible: faces, figures, and landscapes that hold the weight of emotion, yet remain fleeting, fragile, or distorted. Each brushstroke and layer become a experiment in balancing order and chaos, permanence and ephemerality, mirroring the contradictions of the human condition.

My work invites viewers to confront uncertainty, sit with the absurd, and find, amidst the void, moments of vulnerability, reflection, and unexpected beauty

My artistic journey is fueled by a deep desire to capture and convey complex emotions, occasionally intertwined with depictions of cats and our profound relationships with them. My work is an exploration of the intricate tapestry of feelings, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, dreams, and the universal themes of grief, depression, and the joy that cats bring into our lives.

This year, I've embarked on a cathartic and therapeutic exploration of my emotions, particularly in coping with the profound loss of my emotional support cat. Using various techniques such as acrylic, glitter, metal, digital and silk screens, I aim to create visually captivating pieces that communicate the layers of grief and uncertainty.

Simultaneously, I delve into the realm of human interaction with cats, celebrating the impact these feline companions have on our emotions. Having experienced the soothing presence of cats amidst struggles with depression and anxiety, I aim to capture the unique and comforting bond between humans and their feline friends.

In my paintings, I express the beauty and complexity of the female experience, challenging societal expectations and gender roles. The textured and tactile nature of my work serves as a physical connection to the myriad emotions we experience internally.

The upcoming collection includes diverse mediums such as prints, paintings, and sketches. I experiment with canvas and wood substrates, employing oil and paint scraps to bring my artistic vision to life. Each piece, whether a multi-layered print or a textured painting, serves as a narrative of emotions, dreams, and the resilience of the human spirit.

As I navigate the realms of grief, loss, and self-discovery, my art becomes a bridge between personal expression and shared experiences. I invite the audience to connect with the universal themes woven into each piece, fostering a space for collective healing and understanding.

Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my journey, capturing the essence of what it means to be human—feeling deeply, questioning, and creating in pursuit of genuine self-expression.

Artist statement 2023

I may be selfish, but what artist isn't? We want to captivate whatever we want, because we want to. I have been given the ability to create whatever I want with my own hands and choose to create what represents me. Emotions, feelings, and places I would or wouldn't go. All about what I think about and with the idea of what I enjoy in mind. What I think is beautiful. I am the only one who knows what I want to create.

I enjoy making paintings look like they were painted. I love texture and visible paint strokes. The weirder, the better. The texture adds to feelings of discomfort. Touch it, interact with it.

My entire life, I have been devoting my time and effort to working for other people. Whether that be assignments in school, group projects, or finals, it has been to serve and make myself most appealing to another person. In return for a piece of me and my time I would get back a grade. Stating if I was satisfactory or not. I want to show that whether I am being criticized for my hands or not, I will create.

The work I make is about my experience as a woman; it is idealized and glorifying, or violating and insulting. The female experience is a beautiful yet painful thing. When I think about what it means to be a woman, I feel a sense of fear. There are so many things we are expected to do or not do as women, but why, when we have already had to do so much, do we still face a list of things we need to do? The role of a girl in school is to distract the boys, hide us. The role of women at home, clean for them. The roles of women with men, breed us. But we already face so much annoyance. These ideas about us and what we need to do to be considered ladylike are horrifying. We face these gender roles, being ignored through history, and objectified, but we are crazy if we fight back.

I want to make art that makes people feel a certain way. More than sadness, or happiness. I want someone to look at my pieces and remember when they felt that painful way, or dreamt of a world that looked like that. This is my art and I will show my mind. The heartbreak, the anger, the blissful feelings, and the terrible. That is why I want my pieces to have texture. We feel so much internally, why not connect with it physically too?
